The initiative is part of Carrefour's efforts to spread awareness about the conservation of the environment. The leading hypermarket chain has also introduced reusable plastic bags at its outlets today at the cost of 1 Qatari Riyal.
Carrefour is proud of the environmental awareness initiatives it has launched so far. In 2007, the hypermarket instigated a reusable green bag campaign across many of its stores in the Middle East and, held a clean up the beach event and has now started selling reusable bags at all its outlets in Qatar.
The tree-planting ceremony, which was attended by Carrefour's 200 employees and representatives from the Doha municipality/public garden section, further underlined Carrefour's ongoing commitment to raising environmental awareness in the region.
Christian De Nale, District Manager, Carrefour Qatar, said:
"This initiative underlines our commitment towards our society. Through our green project, we are not only encouraging our employees, but spreading the message of preserving the environment to a larger group of people. We are very thankful to Doha Municipality for their support and, are looking forward to working with them more closely for future initiatives."
