To qualify, students must be between the ages of 14-18, enrolled in a Kuwaiti high school, and must submit all forms before 21st December 2008, which are available on the competition's website at www.dabest100.org or from the Scientific Center as of October 20th 2008. To further support students, the competition has allocated a KD 100 project expense allowance for every competing student. Students must supply receipts signed by their supervisor in order to receive the compensation.
ExxonMobil Public Affairs & Government Relations Advisor Ms. Aseel Al-Turkait said:
"We are very excited about launching the competition, and on behalf of our partners we wish all participants the best of luck in the competition. We created the science fair competition to generate interest in maths and science at an early stage in a student's education with the promise of inspiring them to pursue higher education in these fields."
The Kuwait Science Fair is run by a committee of volunteers comprised of the four organizations as well as volunteers from educational establishments. The volunteers will be approaching government and private schools for support as well as to recruit students for the Kuwait Science Fair, starting from today (see enclosed list of schools to be visited).
Students may apply online at dabest100.org or pick-up an application from the Scientific Center. Volunteers will be available every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday between 5pm and 8pm. The committee will be stationed at the Scientific Center at these hours to also provide guidance, help and support for students, their parents and teachers.
The Committee will also be holding workshops at the Scientific Center for the participants on November 10th and December 17th to raise further awareness and attract more students to participate in the competition.
