A changing landscape of logistics: Fujairah leads the way

  • United Arab Emirates: Monday, January 13 - 2003 at 09:14
  • PRESS RELEASE

The New Year will usher in the Logistics Conference at Fujairah Business Club on February 22, 2003 through the consortium of Fujairah Free Zone, Port of Fujairah and Fujairah International Airport.

The conference will be focusing on the main theme of, 'SURGING SUPPLY CHAIN STRATEGIES: A VITAL LOGISTICS LINK TO THE EAST COAST'. His Excellency, Sheikh Saleh Al Sharqi, will inaugurate the conference and will support the presentation from eight experts on a variety of logistical topics that will enhance the role of Fujairah as a vital supply chain link to the region. Although, Furjairah is shaping up to be a tourism centre, it has a natural advantage as the world's second largest bunkering facility in the world, second only to Singapore. Potential trade in aggregates is the actual transportation of this product from Fujairah to the rest of UAE and the neighbouring countries. The plan to implement the direct highway link between Dubai and Fujairah with the expansion of road infrastructure adds considerable logistical value to the region. It will counteract the development and construction of the new port in the proximity of the region - located at Sohar, Oman.

In such a dynamic scenario, key performance indicators are dependent on how well logistics are integrated into the economic planning of Fujairah. The experts participating at the conference will debate this issue. As a world provider of bunkering facilities in the Straits of Hormuz, it is the strategic management of logistics carrying the liquid that will keep the interest of delegates in presentations being made at the conference. The clock ticks to collaborative planning, forecasting and replenishment (CPFR) as a logistics strategy to be implemented in the networked economy. Of course, this will provide important lessons to the next generation of logistics leadership that will be constantly grappling with the issue of satisfying the customers in the region. The collaborative logistics will drive the changes and formulate new rules of shipping in the logistics industry. It will have great implications for all those involved and going beyond the simple links of a supply chain management.

The Fujairah Logistics Conference will also explore the consequences of living in an unprecedented time of consolidation within supply chain management that rewards a small number of companies with tremendous value. UPS buys Fritz, APL buy GATX Logistics, MMI working together with Freightworks. Where will it end? Why is this happening, who will be the winners, and how can you benefit? This trend is driven by three major factors: the shipper's quest for lead logistics providers (LLPs), technology and the emergence of deep-pocketed logistics acquirers. Learn all about these trends and issues that will be addressed by speakers at the conference.
