The MoU between Intel and Teachers' College set the foundations for the formation of a steering committee of senior managements from both parties who will meet once a month or whenever necessary to oversee the progress of the collaboration. The main thrust of the cooperative program is to develop a process to accredit the Intel Teach program and help the university integrate technology effectively into teaching and learning and within the KSU curricula for pre-service teachers.
Abdulaziz Al-Noghaither, General Manager, Intel Saudi Arabia, said:
"The foundation of tomorrow's innovation is education. That's why making quality education available to more students around the world with the help of technology - has inspired Intel's commitment to education for 40 years. By collaborating with forward-minded education boards such as King Saud University, we aim to do much more than make contributions. Intel gets directly involved in policy, training teachers, offering free curricula, providing kids a place to explore technology and encouraging young inventors. The future starts here and now."
Dr. Ali Bin Abdullah Al Afnan, Dean of Teachers College, said:
"We see the development of the Knowledge Economy in Saudi Arabia as the springboard for preparing our youth for the global economy. In the long-term, our partnership with Intel is set to translate into forming the foundation of the Kingdom's human capital resources for future generations."
The program not only focuses on teaching and learning inside the academic environment of the College but outreaches into the community and schools. The signatories will establish and run leadership awareness programs and offer training to school principals and collaborate on training teachers from public and private schools at the community training center in the college.
With a view to encouraging wider involvement in the program, Intel and KSU will encourage volunteer work and activities at the college by participating on the technology seminars and workshops which are organized by the college.
The Intel Teach Program helps teachers to be more effective educators by training them on how to integrate technology into their lessons and promoting problem solving, critical thinking and collaboration skills among their students. The readiness which Riyadh Teachers college has welcomed the scheme sends a powerful message to educators and learners in the Kingdom that the way forward to a better integrated and wholesome world is through the benefits that top quality teaching assisted by cutting edge technology can bring.
