The 3rd Annual World Islamic Infrastructure Finance Conference sees bright future for Islamic project finance

HE Yousef Hussain Kamal, the Minister of Finance & Economy of the State of Qatar has delivered a Keynote Address at the 3rd Annual World Islamic Infrastructure Finance Conference (WIIFC 2008), which was held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Doha.

The conference is expected to attract more 200 international and regional industry leaders including project financiers and investors as well as leading developers representing real estate, energy and other key infrastructure sectors.

WIIFC 2008 will also showcase the next generation of cutting-edge solutions in the Islamic project finance market.

International and regional speakers will pinpoint new growth prospects for Islamic project finance and provide key insights into the next generation of Islamic finance solutions.

Sheikh Ali Mohieddin Al-Qurrah Daghi, Deputy Chairman of Shari'ah Advisory Board, QNB Al Islami will speak on the new parameters for Shari'ah-compliant project finance, while Salah Jaidah, Chief Executive Officer, Qatar Islamic Bank, and Hesham Ismail Abdul Rahman Al-Emadi, Chief Executive Officer, Energy City Qatar will address the Next Wave of Opportunities and Sources of Finance for Large-Scale Infrastructure Projects. Musadag El Melik, General Manager of QNB Al Islami will highlight key developments and new opportunities in this industry.

Salmaan Jaffery, Director, Islamic Financial Services Group (IFSG), Ernst & Young Bahrain will chair the session on Product Innovation and the Next Generation of Islamic Finance Solutions. Dr. Nahed Taher, CEO, Gulf One Investment Bank, and Yehia El Batrawi, Deputy CEO, Retail & Wealth Management at Ahli Bank, Qatar will speak on the The Next Generation of Islamic Finance Solutions while Haitham Abdou, Group Director, Marketing, International Turnkey Systems and Hilmy Cader, Chief Executive & Senior International Consultant, MTI Consulting (Global) will focus on Innovation through Technology and Marketing Leadership.

Abu Chowdhury, Partner & COO, Emerging Markets Partnership Middle East, Neville R. Koen, Properties Manager, Salam Bounian, Douglas Clark Johnson, CEO and Chief Investment Strategist, Calyx Financial, Khalil Shaltout , EGM & Chief Islamic Banking Officer, Al Safa Islamic Banking, Commercial Bank of Qatar, and Khaled Hassan Rashed, Chief Executive Officer, CORECAP will be panelists at a session that will discuss the New Horizons for Islamic Investment: Emerging Trends in Sukuk and Shari'ah-Compliant Investment Funds.

New Approaches to Risk Management & Insurance of Large-Scale Infrastructure Projects will be another key topic that will be discussed at the event.

Cyrill Salibi, Managing Director, Risk Management, AON Middle East, Shaun Brook, Director, Heritage Group, Stephen de Stadler, Managing Director and Head of Business Development (Middle East), Fitch Ratings, Kirk Chamberlain, Vice President, Hill International, Inc and Khawar Qureshi, Head, McNair Chambers will be the speakers at this session.

WIIFC 2008 will close with a stimulating roundtable debate on Assessing New Opportunities & Challenges in Key Infrastructure Sectors and Markets.

Panelists at this roundtable will be Douglas Clark Johnson, Salmaan Jaffery, Abu Chowdhury and Sohail Farooq, Principal, Finance & Risk Management Practice at Oliver Wyman Financial Services.

More than 200 industry leaders are expected to attend the 3rd Annual World Islamic Infrastructure Finance Conference in Qatar to map out new opportunities in the dynamic Islamic project finance market.
