Kitted out with specially designed Pink t-shirts, 1035 women and their families gathered early on Friday morning at Emirates Golf Club to create the iconic human awareness pink ribbon, the first ever in the UAE.

The unique event raised over Dhs 126,000 in fundraising through sponsorship and individual donations.

The Pink Ambassador "Spokesperson" appointed for the UAE/M.E. is Dr. Houriya Kazim - leading breast cancer surgeon, founder of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of the Emirates - excitedly reported from the event "Thanks to everyone here, the Estee Lauder campaign in UAE is bigger than ever before, helping to make a real impact in the fight again breast cancer.

Our aim is to raise awareness and funds; the Human Awareness Pink Ribbon is a superb way of establishing this communication as well as having a great morning of fun.

I am proud to be part of this tremendous achievement.

I would also like to thank Mapochette.com for everything they have done".

The event was the brainchild of Danielle Wilson, managing director of sassy designer handbag rental website mapochette.com, who historically has had close ties with fundraising for breast cancer. Danielle teamed up with Norma Zoghby from Estee Lauder Middle East to create a unique event for the UAE and secured sponsors such as Pure Gold, Puma, Philips, Flying Elephant, Marks & Spencer, Nbar and Kaya Skin Clinic to name a few. All participants were given a free goodie bag containing the specially designed pink t-shirt by Buffi Jashanmal, Estee Lauder cosmetics product, pink ribbon and bookmarks with educative information about breast cancer and preventive measures.

Donations towards the Estee Lauder Breast Cancer campaign can continue to be made until the 31st October 2008 through mapochette.com.

Estee Lauder Middle East has also tied up with several corporations and key people in the health community to conduct high profile awareness and charitable activities throughout the month of October in celebration of the sixteenth year of global activities for the campaign.
