Dr. Scott Strong, Acting CEO, SKMC, stated:
'The transfer of the Abu Dhabi Blood Bank to the new building will enhance the services offered to the public and provide a convenient environment for blood donation that should better satisfy our donors. SKMC and Abu Dhabi Health Services Company - SEHA continually strive to meet the highest international standards through the development, modification, and maintenance of clinical services.'
Dr. Laila Abdel Wareth, Chair of Laboratory Medicine at SKMC, stated that 'the transfer was carefully planned for and executed with the help of a multidisciplinary team from Abu Dhabi Blood Bank, Department of Laboratory Medicine, Senior SKMC executives, Facilities, Biomedical Engineering, Information Technology, Occupational health and safety, and Support Services. This was necessary to guarantee the safe transfer of equipment, data and staff and to ensure a safe environment for our donors. The move to the new building will enable us to expand the services offered to our patients and to the community.'
Dr. Naima Oumeziane, head of the ADBB, avowed that 'during year 2007, the ADBB collected 20,000 units of blood and 600 units of apheresis platelets. Moreover, 18,000 units of blood and 515 units of apheresis platelets were collected since the beginning of year 2008. UAE Nationals represent the largest number of donors among the many different nationalities that give blood each year'.
she added.'The act of blood donation is unique, and blood donors are special people. Our volunteers provide nearly all the nation's blood supply for transfusion. There is no substitute for human blood and if all eligible donors give blood twice per year, it would greatly help in maintaining an adequate blood supply for the country. Eligible blood donors can donate blood 3-4 times per year safely,'
