Sweets Middle East 2008 opens

His Excellency Khalid Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Director General of Department of Tourism and Commercial Marketing (DTCM), opened Sweets Middle East 2008, with more than 170 companies from 31 countries showcasing their brands and products.
The second edition of the region's only dedicated sweets and confectionery trade show includes an impressive line up of chocolate and cocoa products from both regional and international manufacturers, in addition to sweets, confectionery, bakery, snack food and ice cream goods.
The 2008 show opened to an increased number of international trade visitors eager to discover the latest products and trends first-hand from many of the biggest brands in this niche industry.
"We are witnessing growing trade in the sweets and confectionery market in the Middle East despite changes in the current global economic climate," said Joanne Cook, Industry Group Manager - Exhibitions & Events Management at Dubai World Trade Centre. "We have welcomed increased international participation at the 2008 show as global companies look to build long-lasting relationships within the UAE and the wider Middle East."
The highlights of the 2008 event are the participation of two new pavilions from Cyprus and Malaysia as well as the debut of several companies from major sweets markets like the USA and Europe.
Regional sweets and confectionery markets have been rapidly growing with industry reports estimating the size of the UAE confectionery market at Dhs300m.

Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) and Koelnmesse GmbH present Sweets Middle East 2008, held in halls 7 & 8 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from 3 - 5 November 2008.
The 2007 edition welcomed 7 national pavilions, 140 companies from 25 countries and a total of 3,585 trade visitors attending from 69 countries.
DWTC together with Koelnmesse, supported by the International Sweets and Biscuits Association (AISM), have based Sweets Middle East on a very successful model, ISM in Cologne. Accordingly, the Dubai event will showcase a wide, global range of confectionery, bakery, snack products, ice cream and raw pastes.
