The Alternative Energy Awards 2008 results

The ceremony, devised by Reflex Publishing's Future Fuels & Energies magazine, took place in the Hiltonia Hotel in Abu Dhabi, and saw leading industry professionals celebrating success within the alternative energy industry. Now in its second year, the awards are dedicated to furthering the development and education of the use of sustainable energy sources.

The awards were presented to those who had made a substantial contribution to the cause, with categories including Project of the Year, which was given to Central Electricity Generating Company (AQABA), Developer of the Year, won by Tadweer Waste Treatment and the special consumer award, the Siobhan Live Green Team Award, which was picked up by GoGreen.com - a green website.

Eileen Michael, managing director of Reflex Publishing, said: "The awards ceremony was a great success and it was fantastic to have the opportunity to reward people for the hard work they put into developing renewable energy sources and highlighting this important cause. ADIPEC and Energy 2030 has provided us with a fantastic platform on which to host these awards and a great night really was had by all."

The winners of the Alternative Energy Awards are;

• Project of the Year
Given to an outstanding, recently completed renewable energy project, development, process or plant in the region.
Winner - Central Electricity Generating Company (AQABA)

• Entrepreneur of the Year
Given to an individual who deserves recognition for the most active or ground breaking renewable energy initiative or entrepreneurial leadership in a renewable energy company.
Winner - Sami Khoreibi, Environmena Power Systems

• Developer of the Year
Given to recognition of innovative development plans for a new renewable energy project, process or plant that is well advanced through the design and consenting process, but not yet in operation
Winner - Tadweer Waste Treatment

• Environmentalist of the Year
Given to an individual, company, project or group for developing a new and innovative environmental solution, technology or product that heightens awareness about environmental issues and promote actions that lead towards sustainability
Winner - Green Energy LLC

• New Energy Rising Star of the Year
A company that has demonstrated rapid growth and/or provided a high-realized return to investors by bringing a truly disruptive clean technology or business model to market.
Winner - Masdaar

• Company of the Year
Awarded to a major enterprise whose actions have a significantly advanced the growth of new energy markets and/or demand for related products and services.
Winner - Enpark FZ LLC (TECOM investments)

• New Energy Investor of the Year
Given to a company or individual whose early and continued support and investment in renewable energy has generated positive returns and provided a roadmap for other in the creation of a regional renewable energy investment category.
Winner - Bank Audi

• Academic of the Year
Given to an individual or team within an educational institute for work in developing a renewable energy device, process or application.
Winner - Dr Jad Chaaban

• The Green Award
A Campaign, publication or organization that has enhanced public awareness of renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainability, or the effects or energy use on the environment.
Winner - IndyACT

• Siobhan Live Green Team Award
The special consumer award. An environmental idea which was implemented and has impacted on its community.
