Study to highlight training needs of the visually impaired
- United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, November 05 - 2008 at 16:18
- PRESS RELEASE
Tamkeen, an initiative of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), is conducting a study about the training requirements of the visually impaired to help them keep up-to-date with the needs of the changing workplace.
Ahmad Al Mulla, Community Relations Manager of Tamkeen, said, "At Tamkeen, we work towards improving the standards of human resources through training and using the latest scientific methods, as KHDA has the objective of developing human resources to meet the requirements of the modern age.
"This all falls under the Dubai Strategic Plan 2015, which aims towards developing people on all levels. People with special needs, especially those visually challenged, are a vital sector of the society, and have as many rights and responsibilities as anyone else in society."
He added, "The right to learn and train for people with special needs is protected by law. Therefore, we at Tamkeen work on providing the best means of training, and enabling the visually challenged to be independent so they can join the workforce smoothly and efficiently. This should result in an easier integration for them in mainstream society so they can add to the developmental process the country is undergoing.
"This study is a step towards developing our services at Tamkeen. It is necessary to involve the trainee in the planning process, as they know best what they require. This will also help us avoid wasting time, money, and energy on programmes that aren't of benefit for them."
Mr Al Mullah has invited anyone who has a visual challenge to participate in this study and voice their training needs.
Tamkeen will do its best to provide the best and latest training programmes, he pledged.
Oudeh Hazim, Executive Director of Al Nattiq, said, "Al Nattiq works on providing the best technologies for people with visual challenges. The policy of the company is to enable them to be independent, and for this to happen continuous training is required.
"Companies catering for the visually challenged should develop their services, which is why we co-perated with Tamkeen. Tamkeen has a significant experience in the UAE, and through this programme many people with visual challenges receive high-tech training."
