The Campaign will run until November 23rd, where pink ribbons and badges will be on sale in all Landmark's outlets nationwide including Centrepoint, Babyshop, Shoe Mart, Splash, Lifestyle, Home Centre, Max, E-Max, New Look, Koton, Reiss and Aftershock. In addition, specifically designated Red Crescent donation boxes will also be found in all of Landmark's 134 stores across the UAE.
The money collected will be donated to an SKMC breast cancer patient support group, which offers free help to all women in the UAE. Self-examination information and phone numbers for free breast cancer screening providers will also be distributed at all Daman and Landmark outlets.
Dr. Michael Bitzer, Daman's Chief Executive Officer commented: 'Daman urges women to undergo an annual mammogram screening and to perform the Breast Self Examination (BSE) on a monthly basis as breast cancer now accounts for 22% of female cancers in the UAE.' He continued 'By including the breast screening in our enhanced plans and launching this campaign, we hope that women in the UAE will be encouraged to take the test '.
Micky Jagtiani, Chairman, Landmark Group said, 'We are excited about teaming up with Daman and Red Crescent in the fight against Breast Cancer. Landmark Group, with its network of retail outlets across the country can reach out to many women and their families and disseminate crucial information. We are proud to be part of this good cause.'
The SKMC Breast Cancer patient support group, Ladies of Courage, is based in Abu Dhabi. It works on a voluntary basis and will use the donations to support Breast Cancer patients and their families from all over the UAE. Dr. Patricia Snozyk and Dr. Lamia Safi El Deen serve as the facilitators and have managed the group for the past four years. The support group aims to educate and support women with Breast Cancer as well as their families.
'Supporting Breast Cancer patients goes beyond the medical aspects such as surgery and medication. Women benefit from knowing that other women have gone through similar experiences to theirs. The understanding that comes from a co-survivor is invaluable for women undergoing treatment. Also, women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer are the most credible ambassadors for Breast Cancer awareness. We are glad that Daman and Landmark are highlighting our group and we look forward to helping more women in the Nation.' commented Dr. Patricia Snozyk from SKMC.
