Gulf Insurance Institute launches Amwaj Island headquarters and first e-learning system for insurance

The Gulf Insurance Institute (GII) officially inaugurated its Bahrain headquarters under the patronage of HE the Minister of Labour.

The Board of Directors and invited special guests attended the official opening of the Institute's premises on Amwaj Islands, which was followed by a press conference and the launch of GII's unique E-Learning system.

An evening celebration reception was also held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel's tent 'Al Khayma' and was attended by government officials, high ranking representatives from the insurance industry as well as HR, training and development professionals.

GII Director General Wendy Maddison, said:
"We are proud to have established the Gulf Insurance Institute here in Bahrain and look forward to serving the professional training and development needs of the insurance and risk management sector."


"GII is a centre of learning excellence which has been established to develop the region as a leader in insurance and risk management expertise," said Director General Wendy Maddison.

"We will use the latest technology and sophisticated teaching tools, such as the GII E-learning system, to enhance participants' learning experience and encourage personal and professional development of our members. In addition to the provision of technical and specialized skills and professional qualifications, at GII we strive to instill a culture of learning and career fulfillment in our members," she said, speaking at the launch.

The portal, www.giiacademy.com, is the first e-learning system of its kind for insurance and risk management in the MENA region and supplements face-to-face learning by providing enrolled students with ongoing support for their courses, leading up to their examinations for professional qualifications. Such support includes a powerful set of web based tools and resources such as further reading resources, knowledge base, forums, quizzes, assignments, grading, and messaging.

The portal also adds further value to GII membership in the form of learning and career development resources and facilities. Such resources include a knowledgebase of searchable collections of articles, books, papers, and blogs—all of which are screened by GII faculty and organized into a database. Also available on the portal are glossaries of insurance terms, wikis, access to group subscriptions for authoritative online resources, members' blogs and forums enabling peer to peer exchange of ideas and knowledge, offers on registrations for conferences and events in the region, and a reference source for GII's hard copy library.

GII also works with other leading professional qualification providers, such as the Securities and Investment Institute (UK), Chartered Insurance Institute, Securities and Investment Institute and the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UK) and the American Insurance Institute (AICPCU) and Society of Actuaries (USA).

GII has been established as a leading centre of professional training and development and was established by industry leaders to develop the insurance and risk management sector. The founding shareholders are Oman Insurance Co PSC—Dubai, Bahrain National Insurance Co—Bahrain, Al Ahliea Insurance Co — Kuwait, Al Khaleej Insurance Co — Qatar, Oman National Insurance Holding—Oman, Nasco Karaoglan—France, and Shiekan Insurance & Reinsurance Co. - Sudan.

GII has been licensed as a Management and Business Training Institute by the Ministry of Labour, Directorate of Training Institutes Affairs, Bahrain, and provides the highest levels of quality assurance and strong governance under the guidance of its Executive Committee, Quality and Standards Council and Disciplinary Council. Members of these Councils are recognized leading academics and executives from industry, ensuring quality standards and promotion of the GII Code of Professional Conduct.
