'I am very honored to accept this award on behalf of Embraer. Embraer takes
its environmental responsibilities very seriously, and is committed to reducing emissions via fuel efficiency, aerodynamic design, new materials, and other technological advances developed for its aircraft. Last year, we announced a 3% fuel burn improvement for our
larger Embraer 190 and Embraer 195 jets, which means a significant reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.'
Embraer uses cutting-edge construction technologies that result in lightweight structures and fuel-efficient aircraft. The Company is also introducing advanced materials, more composite applications and electrical systems, innovative joining technologies, latest-generation Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) design and analysis tools, Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO), and improved avionics and flight control systems, in order to further reinforce its environmental commitment.
In October 2007, Embraer created the Environmental Strategies and Technologies Office, under the leadership of Satoshi Yokota, Executive Vice President, Strategic Planning and Technology Development. The objective is to develop specific environmental policies and to support the Company's business units, as they establish strategies to reduce the environmental impact of the manufactured products and production processes.
The Company became the first manufacturer in the aeronautics industry to receive, in 2002, the ISO 14001 certification, attesting to the fact that it has environment-friendly attitudes and practices, controls impact, and is proactive in preventing pollution.
