Telecoms to avoid slowdown

Mohammed Al Ghanim, Director General of the Telecoms Regulatory Authority, told delegates at the MEED Abu Dhabi Conference that the UAE's telecoms sector would remain unaffected by the current financial turmoil: 'We are one of the few areas that won't slow down. On the contrary we are going to have to speed up to meet Plan 2030 needs. We have a huge imbalance between almost free local calls and very expensive international calls and this is something that will have to change if you want to have competition.'
