Enhancing its Web presence was a key part of that strategy with the creation of a new global Web site - a user-centric 'travel community portal'.
Previously the Web site had been a basic domain where customers could purely locate flight information.
As the functionality of the Web continues to expand, Saudi Arabian Airlines wanted to re-address its Web site focus and produce a one-stop shop that offered visitors an all-encompassing travel experience, including flight information, ticket booking, car hire, hotel information and destination weather reports.
A 2007 survey from JupiterResearch reveals that over 50% of online leisure travellers purchased all or most of their personal travel online.
This highlights the need for travel Web sites to create a more effective online booking portal for their customers.
Vignette Portal and Vignette Content Management (VCM) solutions were selected by Saudi Arabian Airlines.
The Saudi Arabian Airlines Web site has now gone live and is able to integrate booking online via e-ticketing/electronic payments, Web check-in and baggage tracking.
The Web site is also able to offer multi-language functionality (English, French and Arabic) that will enable customers to select their country setting and choose their preferred language.
As Saudi Arabian Airlines now flies to over 55 international destinations, this adds an extra personalised dimension for explicit customer groups.
Vignette's Web Experience foundation enables organizations to rapidly build and deliver a highly personalised experience to their customers, employees and partners, as well offering enterprise-class Web 2.0 and social networking functionality that help organizations acquire, serve and grow their customer base.
VCM provides templates to manage the content, sites, content types and objects to deploy and deliver information.
It also provides a workflow manager, a roles-based command centre to multiple Web sites, portals or devices, as well as essential library services.
'The new online presence for Saudi Arabian Airlines can help establish them as a leader in the Middle East's travel industry and will give their customers a truly rich and personalised travel experience. This kind of personal and multichannel experience for customers in a social community Web setting can be especially beneficial in the travel industry and Saudi Arabian Airlines is truly leading the way,'
said, Ian McEwan, Regional Vice President, Middle East, Europe and Africa, Vignette.
'Saudi Arabian Airlines recognises that the Web as a key tool in the further growth of the company. We chose Vignette as we wanted to secure our online future and are delighted to offer our customers enhanced services and a comprehensive travel experience.' said Hazem Sunbul, Manager of Sales Development, Saudi Arabian Airlines.
