The three-day summit in Dubai, organised by the Government of Dubai and the World Economic Forum, saw over 700 knowledge thought leaders from 70 working councils in eight clusters coming together to address pressing global challenges.
Concurrently, the World Economic Forum named Dubai as the permanent headquarters for the annual Summit on the Global Agenda.
Spearheading the efforts behind the event was Nabil Alyousuf, Executive President of the Dubai School of Government and Chairman of the Summit's Organizing Committee. Leveraging his experience on public sector advancement, human resource development and community enhancement, Alyousuf significantly contributed to the success of the milestone event.
Alyousuf said:
"The organizing committee did not spare any effort in ensuring the success of the Summit. Over the past eleven months, the team diligently liaised with the organizing committee of the World Economic Forum to finalize all details of the event. The result was a forum that reflected Dubai's global status and its meticulous standard of quality and excellence in the preparation and implementation of minute logistical arrangements. Dubai has long since proven its competency in organizing international conferences and summits by virtue of its location, expertise and facilities. However, these were not the only decisive factors when choosing a site for the summit. Over the past couple of decades, Dubai has fully integrated itself with the global economy and has demonstrated to the world how much of a key player it has become. Choosing Dubai as the Summit's permanent home firmly validates Dubai's capabilities."
Alyousuf said the success of the first summit has spurred the organizing committee to start work on next year's summit that has already set out 100 contemporary issues for deliberation.
Alyousuf added, "We are undertaking a comprehensive evaluation of this year's experience in order to make next year's event even more successful on all levels. This will further serve as a testimony to Dubai's innovation, creativity and ability to out-perform its own benchmarks."
Co-chaired by Professor Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of World Economic Forum, and Mohamed Alabbar, Member of the Dubai Executive Council and Co-Chairman of the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Summit, the Dubai Summit evaluated issues ranging from the financial sector turmoil and climate change to poverty eradication and sustainable development.
