Puccini's Classic La Bohême comes to Sharjah

Al Sarkal, Chief Executive Officer, Al Qasba Development Authority, said: 'We feel proud to host this timeless masterpiece by the world's greatest opera composer and are delighted to support Coral Beach Resort that is flying in top artistes from European Chamber Opera (ECHO) - one of Europe's best-know opera production houses. It will be a rare opportunity for opera aficionados in the UAE to experience this legendary musical.'

The gala evening is being supported by Etihad Airways and Arabian Explorers.

Jean Pierre Simon, Regional General Manager, Northern Emirates, Coral Beach Resort, Sharjah, said: 'Al Qasba is the perfect venue to stage this sensational drama. La Bohême is considered by many as Puccini's finest score. Set in Paris around 1830, it depicts a society fraught with conflict. Simply put, it is the story of a poor Parisian poet who falls in love with Mimi. His jealousy drives her away, but secretly he is concerned that he cannot give her the care she needs.'

With ravishing melodies and absorbing drama, La Bohême is relatively easy to follow. ECHO will perform all four acts of the musical. Stefan Paul Sanchez, Artistic Director, ECHO said: 'What elevates this one to great heights is not just the theatrical talents of our group, but a fine performance supported by detailed and accomplished choral and orchestral drama which matches the intensity of the doomed lovers. Our artistes have been recognized worldwide for their evocative power and effortless ability to blend tragedy and comedy into a mesmerizing act. Wonderful period costumes and superb singing make La Bohême an intimate and romantic experience. We are looking forward to stage it in Sharjah.'

The organization and production of this classic is being handled by noted events management firm Marketing Pro-Junction (MPJ). Hina Bakht, Vice President, MPJ, said, 'It has been an exciting challenge for us, especially owing to the magnitude of the production, the intense fervor of the drama and the complexity of the set-ups. All four acts have a different requirement in terms of stage décor. We are working with famous stylist and interior designer Francois Desroches who is absolutely phenomenal. Ultimately, we are looking to give audiences an unforgettable evening and I am sure they will enjoy it.'
