Oracle recognises customers' outstanding achievements with awards for IT excellence

Under the Patronage of His Excellency, Mohammed Nasser Al Khasibi, Secretary General Ministry of National Economy, and Chairman of Information Technology Authority Board of Directors, Oracle recently hosted a large delegation of the region's leading chief information officers (CIOs) at an exclusive Oracle CIO Executive Summit in Muscat.

The event was supported by Information Technology Authority Oman.

The Oracle CIO Executive Summit, themed 'Strategize, Transform, Execute' brought together industry visionaries, business leaders and Oracle executives to focus on the opportunities for IT to help transform organisations to achieve their strategic goals.

Sergio Giacoletto, Executive Vice President, Oracle Europe, Middle East & Africa addressed the distinguished gathering on Oracle's software strategy, the latest technological innovations, and the benefits they offered to industries in the Middle East. He also outlined the main challenges facing CIOs in many countries, namely IT skills availability, ROI and the infrastructure demands presented by diversified economies.

The honoured guest speaker was Dr. Salim Al-Ruzaiqi, CEO, Information Technology Authority, whose keynote focused taking Oman into a new era via the eOman initiative which embodies the vision of the Sultanate, to transform the Sultanate of Oman into a sustainable Knowledge Society through ICT, to enhance government services, enrich businesses and empower individuals.

Other speakers included Husam Dajani, Senior Vice President of Oracle Middle East and Africa, and senior Oracle experts such as Ed Abbo, Senior Vice President, Applications Development, Oracle Corporation, who gave in-depth presentations on identifying the best-in-class approaches to information and technology.

A highlight of the Oracle Executive CIO Summit was the Oracle CIO Awards for IT Excellence for outstanding achievements and contributions by Oracle Middle Eastern customers. Winners included:

o The E-Services Excellence Award - Muscat Municipality for the provision of excellent IT-enabled solutions for better public services.

o The E-Government Excellence Award: Leadership & Professionalism - Ministry of Civil Services, Oman, for utilizing ICT & e-Government services to improve social inclusion and improve lives on a large or national scale.

o The Innovation in Strategy Award - Information Technology Authority (ITA), Oman, for implementing innovative strategies which have delivered above-average results in improved services, transformed processes & results, increased effectiveness.

o The Business Excellence Award - MB Petroleum, Oman, for transforming information assets and driving better results with latest technology.
