PEIE holds workshop on Industrial Safety today

The Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE), in association with The New India Assurance Co. Ltd., is organising a one-day workshop on Industrial Safety today at Jabrin Ballroom InterContinental Muscat.

The workshop is being organsied under the auspices of HE Ahmed bin Hassan Al Dheeb, Under Secretary Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Commerce for Commerce and Industry.

The workshop will open at 9am and will continue till 2pm.

The key objective of this workshop is to create awareness among industries to develop strategies for addressing industry specific safety issues. This will also make an update on the Omani industry with the latest practices and management systems for safer work environment.

Further, it will expose industry personnel to various technological innovations and optimal safety techniques to improve productivity, reduce costs, safe and healthy workplace.

Industrial safety is becoming an increasingly important issue for the top management of industries and other organizations, not only from the legal requirement point of view, but to improve overall productivity. It is proven and increasingly believed that 'Safer' work environment increases worker productivity. But still this issue is generally neglected or given least importance by most organizations till date. The increasing global competition and stringent labour protection laws demand today higher standards of safety of workers. There have been recent developments in terms of technologies and practices, which ensure improved safety and health environment.

This workshop will enhance competency levels among industry personnel on Industrial Safety & Health Management System & technologies, there effective implementation and monitoring.

The workshop on Industrial Safety is part of the four-month-long National Awareness Campaign on Safety - Safety First Insurance Next - spearheaded by New India Assurance Company.

Partners of the national awareness campaign are BEC Group, Oman Cables, Muscat Pharmacy, Teejan Group, LuLu Hypermarkets, United Finance Company, Nagarjuna Constructions, VLCC International, Badr Al Samaa and Abdul Aziz Brothers LLC.

The programme is supported by the Omani Women's Association and ISACA, Muscat.

The campaign launching ceremony on October 15, 2008 was held under the patronage of Brig. Dr. Suleiman Al Harthy, Director General of Civil Defence, Royal Oman Police (ROP). H.EAnil Wadhwa, Ambassador of India to Sultanate of Oman was the guest of honour.
