  • PRESS RELEASE

Dubai International Jewellery Week, the region's jewellery event of the year, was officially opened by His Excellency Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs of the Federal Government of the United Arab Emirates and Chairman of Dubai Holding.

Held from 11-15 November 2008 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre Dubai International Jewellery Week presents three targeted events; Areeq Dubai, Jewellery Collections Dubai and Jewellery Trade Dubai which deliver customised platforms for luxury goods, retail and trade. The event showcasing over 520 companies, an increase of 30% with representation from 30 countries and matched by a 20% increase in exhibitor space. In addition to this 85% of the companies exhibiting at the event are international, mirroring the global appeal the show now commands.

His Excellency Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi and his VIP entourage toured the exhibition following the inauguration, getting a first-hand glimpse of the eclectic collections on display from across the globe including Autore Pearls, Beni Hendi, Breitling, Damas, Dhamani, Dunamis Porsche Design and many more.

A highlight of the tour saw the much-awaited regional launch of the unique Quattro Valvole timepiece, made by the Italian watch makers Meccaniche Veloci. This exquisite timepiece uses the same principles of a finely tuned racing car and is retailed by international jeweller Istana. The timepiece was accompanied by the ultra-luxury Spada Codatronca sports car, which was unveiled for the first time in Dubai and attracted an audience in its own right.

His Excellency also experienced the stunning Dunamis watch, a favourite with celebrities the world over which has never before been seen in the Middle East. "We are delighted that His Excellency Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs of the Federal Government of the United Arab Emirates and Chairman of Dubai Holding opened Dubai International Jewellery Week. With many jewellers using the event as a platform to launch or unveil their products to Dubai and the larger region, this has reaffirmed our position as one of the leading jewellery platforms in the Middle East," said Ms. Trixee Loh, Senior VP, Exhibitions and Events Management of Dubai World Trade Centre, the show's organiser.

There's a lot more to come over the next two days with promotions aplenty including Bin Hendi's raffle draw where one lucky Areeq visitor will walk away with a striking De La Cour watch worth AED 30,000. Diamond experts Dhamani also have a mega raffle up for grabs at the show, with the winner walking away with a superb 1 carat Dubai Cut Diamond.
