Khaled Al Hajeri appointed CEO of Zain's mobile operation in Kuwait

Zain Group CEO, Dr. Saad Al Barrak, announced the appointment of Mr. Khaled Al Hajeri as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Zain's mobile operation in Kuwait, commencing November 16, 2008.

He replaces Mr Barrak Al Sabeeh who was at the helm of the operation since 2006 taking it to many record breaking heights and extending its market leading position in many areas such as customers and revenues.

'This appointment and other senior managerial moves come as a result of the company's ambitious profitable expansion strategy and objectives in being a top-ten global mobile operator by 2011. Mr Al Hajeri has played an integral role in the Group's international successes to date and I'm confident his broad experience will bear fruit in Kuwait carrying on from the successes Mr Al Sabeeh brought to the operation,' noted Dr Al Barrak.

For the previous 5 years, Mr Al Hajeri held the position of Zain Group Chief Technical Officer (CTO) whereby he was responsible for network planning, construction, systems operation, strategic direction and technology trends in all the 22 countries that Zain operates in.

Mr Al Hajeri joined Zain in 1985, serving the company for 23 years. He is a Harvard alumnus and holds a bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of the Pacific, California (1983). He attended London & Harvard Business Schools as well as International Institute for Management Development (IMD), Switzerland.

Mr Barrak Al-Sabeeh is moving to Zain Group in the vital role as Assistant Group CEO for Business Development & Government Relations whereby he will support Dr Saad Al Barrak focusing on mergers and acquisitions, legal and regulatory issues across the two continents. Before joining Zain Mr. Al-Sabeeh headed several departments of various sectors in Kuwait Airways (KAC) from 1985 to 2000. His last position in KAC was Deputy Director General of the Commercial Sector. Al-Sabeeh holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from North Carolina A.T.S University, U.S.A. He has attended numerous courses in various institutions including the London Business School.

Also announced was the appointment of Mr. Khalid Al-Omar replacing Mr Al Hajeri as Zain Group CTO. Mr Al Omar joined Zain in 1986, previously holding the position of Zain in Kuwait Chief Operating Officer (COO) where he additionally set up and oversaw the network expansion in Iraq. Holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic Engineering Technology from Colorado Technical College Colorado USA, in 2006, Mr Al-Omar successfully completed an Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School and is also an alumnus of Harvard University.
