ASPIRE's support for the awareness campaign stems from its core strategy of supporting community and social activities for Qatari nationals and residents alike. The Walkathlon event is organized by ASPIRE Active.

Gisela Hackfort, ASPIRE Active's program head, said:
"Our goal is to reach the general public, the educational and health care communities in an effort to target Qataris who are at risk for diabetes and help guide them to the proper medical programs to prevent or diagnose and treat this deadly disease."

World Diabetes Day Campaign aims to raise public awareness on the prevention and treatment of dangerous type II diabetes. The International Diabetes Federation chose November 14th to mark the discovery of Insulin by Federick Banting and Charles Best on November 14, 1922.

Event participants received special Walkathlon gift items including caps and T-shirts. At the finish line there was family-oriented entertainment, including a live band, face painting, clowns and jumping castles. At the same time, exercise and health stations nearby will offered health fitness checks and blood sugar tests for diabetes.
