WW Community Affairs Director visits Dubai Men's College

Dr. Akhtar Badshah, Senior Director of Microsoft Community Affairs, gave a keynote speech at Dubai Men's College on Sunday last week.
Dr. Badshah manages Unlimited Potential, a global initiative to promote digital inclusion and increased access to technology skills training in underserved communities.
He also oversees programmes aimed at helping non-profit organizations to improve their effectiveness through increased technology capacity. This includes Microsoft's signature relationships with organizations such as NPower and Boys and Girls Clubs of America. In addition to this, Dr. Badshah serves on the Advisory Board for the Development Gateway Project of the World Bank, World Links India, World Corp., Teachers without Borders and Datmation Foundation India.
During the afternoon Dr. Bashah was welcomed Dr. Bob Richards, Senior Director of Dubai Men's College, Mr. Philip Corcos, Associate Director of Dubai Men's College, Mr. Tony Degazon, Chair of the Business Department, and Ms. Baraa Yousuf, IT faculty.
Dr. Bashah then gave a speech on Microsoft Community Engagement, Corporate Philanthropy and Accesibility, mainly focusing on Employability and Entrepreneurship opportunites. He outlined how Microsoft is partnering governments, non-governmental organizations, local businesses and academic institutions to offer technology that can help foster entrepreneurship and support job creation. He also spoke about Microsoft's different community engagement initiatives worldwide and across the Gulf focusing on youth empowerment.
"Technology has become one of the basic building blocks of modern society and the core of education," said Dr. Badshah. "To compete successfully in the global marketplace, countries must invest in building a workforce that has the right technical skills and knowledge. By integrating the power of technology with education, we can improve the quality of life and economic vitality of our community by preparing our students for the future. Microsoft's collaboration with academic institutions such as Higher Colleges of Technology and Dubai Men's College reflects our long-term commitment to contributing to socio-economic development and accelerating the evolution of a knowledge-based society. Together, we aim to empower youth across the country through IT skills development that will enable them to compete in today's global economy.
