"The Children's Cancer Center of Lebanon (CCCL), established in Beirut, Lebanon, is a unique regional center for the comprehensive treatment of pediatric cancer. An affiliate of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, which was founded in 1962 by Danny Thomas, the late entertainer of Lebanese descent, the center works in close association with The American University of Beirut, Medical Center (AUBMC), and is located in its premises. It was inaugurated in April 12, 2002."
Mr. Nassib Nasr added that as CCCL is embarking on its seventh year, more than 600 patients from Lebanon and the Arab Countries including Gulf Countries have been treated or are still undergoing treatment. In addition, CCCL offered and still offering preliminary diagnosis testing freely to hundreds of children from other hospitals. The CCCL's budget for the fiscal year 2008-2009 is around $7m.
The International Director of the CCCL added that the CCCL pays all the costs of treatment that are not covered by private and public insurance or third party payers. "Families without insurance or third party payers are never asked to pay".
On the medical level, he stated that the Survival Rate at the CCCL ranges between 80-85% and 378 patients have finished treatment successfully. In addition, he said that most of the bone marrow transplantation operations are made at the premises of the CCCL and the American University Hospital in Beirut.
The director said that "as the CCCL depends on donations to treat the sick children, "your support in these difficult times that Lebanon is passing through, could mean a life at the Children's Cancer Center of Lebanon. You are invited to become a partner with The Children's Cancer Center of Lebanon (CCCL). You will be making a difference in the lives of children who desperately need your help". Mr. Nasr stated that there are 3 ways that he proposes to help:
1.1. The CCCL Fund Raising Gala Dinner in Abu Dhabi on November 27, 2008
"The Children's Cancer Center of Lebanon (CCCL) will be organizing a big fundraising gala dinner at The Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi on Thursday, November 27, 2008, under the Patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, President of Family Development Foundation & President of General Women's Union. All the proceeds of the gala event will go to the CCCL to treat more children stricken with cancer. The event will be entertained by the famous Arab singer "Assi Al-Hallani" who is donating his performance to the CCCL. Several Auctions will be done on expensive and antique items during that night by "CHRISTIE'S" Auction House. A "Draw of Hope" will be done on expensive jewelry & items during that night from International designer Elie Saab, Damas, Paolo Bongia Jewelry, Antonio Bonga, Bvlgari & others".
1.2. Sponsoring a Child at the CCCL
"Till today, more than 600 patients from Lebanon & the Arab Countries have been treated at the Center or still undergoing treatment and 1,200 more patients have been examined. A schedule of the profile of every CCCL child with cancer, specifying the type of cancer, the estimated cost and the length of treatment is available for your consideration if you or your institution is willing to sponsor a child to cover his/her medical expenses Most patients need 3 years of treatment. You can sponsor the child for one year or more. In return of sponsoring a child, the donator's name or his/her institution will be put on a plaque that will be placed on the "Wall of Gratitude" at the Center. This is a way to acknowledge our thanks to the donators".
1.3. Naming of Facilities
"The CCCL has two facilities: an out-patient facility located at building 56 of AUB Medical Center, and an in-patient facility at the south section of the 10th floor of AUB Medical Center. The out-patient facility is 5,000 sq.m., of which 722 sq.m is divided into 32 areas, fully equipped. A schedule of the areas and their corresponding value (Shopping List) is available for your consideration. The naming of the facilities is a way to acknowledge our thanks to the donators. An area of the center can thus be named by any name the donator prefers".
The International Director of the Children's Cancer Center of Lebanon (CCCL) ended that the CCCL do counts on "your support during these difficult circumstances that Lebanon is passing through nowadays."
