  • PRESS RELEASE

Global and regional digital leader LG Electronics announced the Middle East launch of LG Solution City, a new initiative that aims to further build its leadership position in the global smart solutions market.

LG Solution City features a whole range of smart and modern solutions aimed at providing a convenient, energy-efficient and secure lifestyle for its users. Comprising four main elements - LG Sol-Mate Smart Building Solution, Smart HomNet Solution, Smart Hotel Solution and Smart Plasma Lighting (PLS) Solution - LG Solution City is a next-generation initiative that will provide a futuristic lifestyle to its users.

Mr. K.W. Kim, CEO of LG Electronics Middle East & Africa Regional Company, said that the launch of Solution City builds on the overwhelming success of its LG HomNet Division launched only last year, a performance boosted chiefly because of the booming construction industry in the region.

LG's HomNet Solutions will be installed in some of the most prestigious properties coming up across the UAE, including U-Bora Tower Bay, Santeville Business Bay, Al Naseem Tower, Smart City, Soccer Tower, Lilac Towers, and many others.

Kim said:
"Since we launched HomNet last year, we have achieved $60m in orders from the real estate sector in the Middle East and Africa alone - a fact that mirrors the region's growing understanding and appreciation of smart home technology. We have equipped over 10,000 homes in the region with our solutions and have made a huge difference to our customers' lives."

"Now, however, we see a wider implementation of our solutions across a larger market - chiefly the hotel industry, lighting and buildings. Today, we are embarking on yet another milestone development in LG Electronics' impressive history. We have developed our smart technology that creates an intelligent environment for its users and connects spaces and people. The LG Solution City is the realisation of our long-term dream," he added.

Mr. H.S. Paik, President of LG Electronics Gulf, said that growing demand for intelligent home solutions from home-buyers and hotels was pushing the regional implementation of such sophisticated technology.

"Home-owners are always looking for that extra edge in their properties before they invest while building and hotel developers continuously explore innovations that can help them manage their properties more efficiently and provide a comfortable lifestyle to their residents and guests," he added. "By providing a comprehensive, easy-to-use system, LG has risen up to their expectations and built a robust solution that addresses their requirements."

LG HomNet is a total home network solution which provides convenient, safe, fun and comfortable residential life anytime and anywhere by connecting all kinds of digital devices. Lifestyle convenience is enhanced by user-friendly automated systems for entertainment, lighting, temperature control and communications, while advanced security is ensured by anti-theft and disaster prevention systems.

By launching its Plasma Lighting Systems (PLS) range, LG is targeting the high wattage market of 300-plus watt lighting products. The market represents $3.7bn of the $80bn global lighting market and the figure is projected to grow to $7bn by 2010.

"The PLS technology eliminates the need for mercury to produce light, so it is environment friendly," said Paik. "We believe PLS products will quickly replace streetlamps and industrial lightings."

During the earlier stage of the initiative, LG plans to install PLS products on recognisable buildings and to forge partnerships with other lighting equipment providers around the world. LG also hopes to develop the initiative as a core business for the company.

The introduction of the PLS technology is another initiative by LG to underline its commitment to safeguard the environment. Last month, the digital leader hosted a high-profile environmental conference in Dubai, in association with the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water, the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and International Association for Human Values (IAHV), to underscore its commitment to safeguard the environment.

LG's Smart Hotel Solution, also known as the U-hotel solution, provides an integrated information system and IT service infrastructure for hotel guests through a convenient, healthy and safe hotel experience, management through its convenient and fast work process, as well as employees by differentiating their services from competitors.

The Smart Hotel Solution suite includes applications such as light and ventilation control, hotel information service, Smart Card service to access the hotel facilities, U-Biz service, guest customised information, among a host of tailored, user-friendly services designed to optimise their guest's stay.

LG Sol-Mate Smart Building Solution features a comprehensive suite of management solutions that provide comfortable living & working spaces, ventilation, lighting and power supply system to save energy and safety measures against accidents.

By smartly controlling essential facilities such as parking, light control, security surveillance, lighting, audio-video, electricity, and broadcasting through an integrated system, LG Smart Building Solution is set to evolve as an important tool for developers and home-owners seeking optimum convenience, safety and security.
