"McDonald's Egypt takes every opportunity to contribute towards the community in a positive manner, and we are very pleased to be able to support the hospital in its efforts to heighten awareness around this admirable cause, which is to treat all children stricken with cancer, free of charge,"said Mohamed Mansour, General Manager, McDonald's Egypt.
This is not the first time McDonald's has strived towards supporting the hospital's goals; in 2001 it was the first company to donate towards the building of the hospital, a donation which amounted to LE4m. Last year, also on the occasion of World Children's Day, McDonald's ran a fund raising campaign and donated the proceeds of LE50,000 to the hospital. The main goal of the campaign was to help the hospital reach its target of increasing the number of inpatient beds available for patients to 180 by the beginning of this year.
This year's event involved 150 students between the ages of eight and twelve from ten different schools, who took part in the competition. Attended by the
Governor of Cairo, and the Minister of Education, and members of the media, the competition was overseen by a panel of celebrity judges such as Simone and Khaled Saleh, who chose the final winners and presented them with their prizes.
Participants competed each with his/her own individual talent, including singing, art, theatre and a test of health related knowledge. The fun and activity filled day also featured a puppet show, and the staple of any McDonald's event; the Ronald McDonald show
