The Kindergarten Starters rewrites history to boost 'Million Book Challenge'

The Kindergarten Starters School in Dubai has set a new Guinness World Record, in association with the Global Village, for having over 3000 children read to by teachers in one sitting and at one venue.

The record feat was achieved recently over a duration of 22 minutes at the Global Village in the presence of the adjudicators of Guinness World records. The previous record comprised 1,600 people approximately. The students from Grade 1 to 5 participated in the initiative and together read a story book, with their teachers.

The world record bid was organised and hosted by the Global Village as part of the 'Million Book Challenge' campaign announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.

The two - week campaign targets to donate over a million books towards 'Dubai Cares', the initiative announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed in 2007 to make basic education accessible to as many children as possible in the world. A total of 31,031 books were read by the students of The Kindergarten Starters School over the two weeks.

Lawrence Hartnett, Principal of The Kindergarten Starters School, said:
"The students of The Kindergarten Starters dedicated a few hours every week for reading activities and they are very enthusiastic about it. We are delighted to have set a world record in something our students enjoy and to have also contributed to the "Million Book challenge."
