Department of Municipal Affairs, Municipalities of Abu Dhabi kick off at GIS Day with much fanfare

The Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA), and the Municipalities of the Emirate kicked off GIS Day with much success.
The exhibition opened to the public at ADNEC where hundreds of attendees which included numerous school children who got a chance to look at the latest and greatest the Emirate has to offer in GIS and SDI.
His Highness Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court attended the VIP Opening and got an extensive tour and presentation about the Emirate's advancement in this sector.
Also, special VIP guests were treated to further in-depth presentations by Dr. Abdulla Ghareeb, Executive Director of Property Management, Department of Municipal Affairs who provided the VIP audience with an overview as to how the municipalities will collaborate with various other Emirate agencies and enhance further the use of this technology in the Emirate.

About Department of Municipal Affairs:The Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA) commenced operations in May 2007, following the Abu Dhabi Executive Council's decision to integrate the Emirate's municipal system. As a new government entity, the Department of Municipal Affairs was created to lead, coordinate and oversee three municipalities in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region. The DMA has a regulatory role while the service delivery and operations are at the municipality level.
On the 5th of May 2008, the Department of Municipal Affairs along with the Abu Dhabi Municipality, Al Ain Municipality and Western Region Municipality embarked upon a new municipal services journey, with the signing of the historic Municipal Charter which aligns the DMA and three municipalities towards greater collaboration and cooperation.
