Call for more local heart research

Dr Abdullah Shehab, Director of CME, Emirates Society of Cardiology, said ongoing cardiology research was essential in the GCC so that local traits and habits were taken into consideration. 'International research is important, but we need to know better our people's statuses. Private and public sectors should join forces to conduct more research. Heart-related ailments are too common in the region, and the commonality of diabetes and obesity are other influential factors,' he said.
