3000 students from government schools pick up litter from Nad Al Hamr

As many as 2500 Students from 70 schools in the city took to Street 9 in Nad Al Hamr area while 510 students from nine schools of Hatta gathered at a designated area in the mountainous area to pick up litter and help save environment.

Hassan Makki, Director of Waste Management Department at Dubai Municipality and Head of the 4-day campaign task force said the municipality's initiative was aimed at raising awareness among all segments of the society about the significance of environment protection.

He noted that in a symbolic gesture to drive home the message of a clean and green city, 11 companies had lent machinery for towing away vehicles abandoned by owners in different parts of the city.

"We have also distributed on Wednesday a total of 200 litter bins to 15 schools in the emirate and announced the results of a waste paper collection contest and a wall magazine contest organised for government schools."

he said.

In the paper collection contest, Nad Al Hamr school came first by collecting more than 2300 kilograms of paper waste whereas students of Al Alfiya School collected 1300 kilograms and students of Al Khansa School collected 1250 kilograms.

A total of 10 tones of waste paper were collected by students of different schools in this contest.

Winners of the wall magazine contest were Al Raya Secondary School (First), Zabeel School (Second) and Hessa Bint Al Murr (Third).
