While contractors, developers and suppliers flock to the Dubai International Exhibition Centre for the five day event, an estimated 3,813 projects in the Gulf region, worth in excess of $3.4 trillion, are now underway, the majority of which are being carried out in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Projects like DubaiLand, Mohammed Bin Rashid Gardens City and Jumeirah Gardens Development are indicative of the scope of construction in the UAE, with these three developments alone valued at $203bn.

According to leading Dubai-based market research by Proleads, which monitors regional construction projects across all industry sectors, expansion of this kind is not limited to the UAE.

The biggest construction project currently underway in the region is Kuwait's Silk City valued at $132bn, followed by the UAE's Jumeirah Gardens Development valued at $95bn, and the $93bn King Abdullah Economic City in Saudi Arabia.

The research shows that across the Middle East and North Africa there are a total of 4,510 projects worth $4.35 trillion. A wave of projects in Algeria, Egypt, Iraq and Libya has turned the region into the world's biggest market for plant, construction machinery, vehicles and equipment.

Demand is expected to grow by up to 20% over the next four years and the Big 5 PMV is giving manufacturers and suppliers a new window of opportunity to capitalise on the construction boom.

Launched last year, the exhibition has this time joined forces with The Big 5, moving to an adjacent site at Dubai International Exhibition Centre to create a mega trade event and one of the region's largest showcases for the construction industry and associated suppliers.

Organised by Streamline Marketing Group in partnership with dmg world media, the Big 5 PMV gives new dimension to the Big 5, the region's most influential construction and contracting event which continues for a 29th year, by providing a large outdoor arena to showcase heavy construction equipment such as tower cranes and diggers.

The Big 5 PMV has attracted over 380 key manufacturers and suppliers from 22 countries who are displaying a huge range of plant, machinery and construction vehicles. With 85% being international companies, 15% local enterprises and 9 international pavilions, Big 5 PMV has expanded significantly in its second year.

Laith Kubba, Director of Streamline Marketing Group, said:
"We are expecting record numbers this year, due in part to our relocation to the Dubai International Exhibition Centre alongside the Big 5 show and the fact that we have attracted an extensive range of high-profile exhibitors."

He added: "This exhibition is dedicated to suppliers and manufacturers of construction plant, machinery and vehicles. All of the participating companies have a unique opportunity to meet face to face with key buyers from across the region and overseas and
increase their presence in the region's booming construction market."

A number of the exhibitors will be doing live demonstrations on their stands, including Mikasa as well as Bobcat, who will manoeuvre their Mini Excavators and medium sized Bobcat skid steer loaders, using buckets and other attachments such as breaker, pallet forks, and sweeper. GEDA will also be operating their passenger hoist.
