A total of 50 computers on the stand allow children to surf a variety of educational software programmes and participate in online learning activities. In addition, children and adults alike are able to generally surf the web or check their e-mails for short periods of time. The connection will remain for the entire duration of the shopping festival, finishing on February 16th.
'It is our pleasure to work in co-ordination with the Dubai Educational Sector to provide a free connection at this year's DSF,' commented Maroua Naim, General Manager, EIM. 'The Internet is a key learning tool for users of any age, offering an online resource for information, communication, and an increasing number of distance learning courses.'
By providing a high-speed broadband connection, the children will have the opportunity to experience a range of bandwidth heavy educational applications. Online presentations, video streaming and downloading large files are all more effective with an ADSL connection, as opposed to the more basic dial-up service.
'Having the Internet at our stand this year is a major advantage and allows us to offer our visitors more in the way of activities,' added Dr Auob Al Bdru, Manager, Dubai Educational District. 'This move from EIM to provide the connection for free shows their initiative and commitment to the educational sector in the country.'
The move is the latest offering from EIM to the educational sector within the country. Among other projects, EIM also runs free seminars throughout U.A.E schools to educate teachers on how best to utilize the Internet. The waiver of registration fees is another example.
