Organiser, International Expo-Consults (IEC) says the initiative is in response to strong industry demand from the expanding chemicals sector.

'Studies suggest 2003 and 2004 will see strong regional growth of between 10 and 15%, with the next peak in the petrochemical cycle arriving in 2005/6,' said Mohammed Falaknaz, Vice President, IEC.

'In the longer term plans have been drawn up for more than 14,800 million tonnes per year of new capacity, to be built between 2004 and 2010, with Iran accounting for more than one-third of the extra volume.

'This year, Gulf states will export more than 40 million tonnes of petrochemcials and plastics to 70 countries. Meanwhile, the region will import more than US $15 billion worth of petrochemical and chemical products,' said Falaknaz.

In addition to prioritising the chemical process technology sector, Chemtex and Corrosion 2003, will also feature dedicated areas for speciality chemicals and polymer raw materials; an expanded industry conferences and a professional industry-led seminar programme and the latest trends and technologies.

'With a visitor footprint taking in the entire Middle East and North Africa, the Sub Continent and CIS, the exhibition serves industries where the demand for machinery, equipment, technology and raw materials continues to soar. It will be a launch pad for international companies targeting the region's new and developing markets,' said Falaknaz.

With national and industry pavilion commitments from India, China and Canada, Chemtex and Corrosion 2003, to be held at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre (DIEC) from March 4-6, will be the largest in the event's history.
