The International Baccalaureate (IB), an organization offering diplomas for state and private schools around the world, is targeting the Middle East as a 'growth area', reported The National. Dr Jeffrey Beard, the director general of the organisation, said the number of IB schools operating in the GCC has more than tripled in five years, and he wants the number to grow from 87 to 400 schools by 2020. At present, there are 11 IB schools in the UAE, with an additional 12 candidate schools that are working towards introducting the IB but are not yet authorised to offer it.
