The QNB Volunteer Awards will be held this year under the banner of "Kafu" with the ceremony taking place on 12 January 2009.

SDC and QNB work together to conduct this annual event which recognizes personal contributions in the field of social development. Both the SDC and QNB share similar social engagement policies, creating a natural partnership to promote the award as well as encourage voluntary work involving many diverse sections of the community.

SDC and QNB also work together to highlight the role of media, sports and social organizations that are actively involved in the promotion of SDC initiatives for the benefit of society.

This is the sixth consecutive Volunteer Award being held by the SDC which will host, for the first time, an international personality renowned for voluntary social initiatives to attend the event to help generate more awareness for this unique effort.

The Volunteer Award was initiated in the year 2000 by the SDC to promote voluntary work and create awareness of its role in developing the community and to reinforce individual and institutional efforts to overcome the difficulties and challenges faced by society. QNB sponsors this award to support the community and to play a positive role in securing community support for the voluntary projects and participating in the country's development.

The award is also an essential factor of any society and helps spread good virtues such as social cooperation among citizens. It covers various sectors of Qatar's infrastructure including, among others, education, health, society, environment, sport, heritage, and charity. The award includes a memento as well as financial support to help the awardees continue making positive impacts on society.

Nominees for the award have been defined to include government and private sector institutions and individuals, as well as school and university students. The award considers criteria such as the voluntary nature of their efforts, as well as the nominees' plans to continue to uphold the spirit of the award within the community.

The SDC has also contracted "Al Bab" company which will cover the advertising campaign of the QNB Voluntary Award.
