Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage announces a new poetry contest

Sultan Al-Amimi, Director of Poetry Academy in Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage, announced a new poetry competition to select the most creative poems in describing camels during Mazayin Dhafra Festival 2009, which will be held from December 23, 2008 until January 1, 2009 in Zayed City, the Western Region.
Regarding the competition's terms and conditions, participating poems must be about describing camels only and abide to the rules and fundamental concepts of Nabti poetry (balancing verses and rhyme).
The contest is open to various nationalities, provided that no competitor is under the age of 18; submits a poem of no less than 20 lines and no more than 30 lines.
Participating poems should be sent by Fax to No. 026212419, and by e-mail to poets@cultural.org.ae
Please note that the deadline for receiving poems is on 26/12/2008. The winners' names will be announced during the closing ceremony of Dhafra Festival where the winning poet will be reciting his poem during "Million's Poet" evening programme which will be aired live on both Abu Dhabi and Million' Poet TV channels immediately following the announcement of the results.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of Armed Forces, Mazayin Dhafra Festival 2009 includes a unique competition of camel beauty, a huge camel auction, a rich and entertaining programme of events and activities accompanying it such as competition of dates and packaging; handicrafts market; best photograph competition besides the competition of the best Nabti poem in portraying camels.
