The graduating class includes doctors, nurses, health managers, pharmacists and lab technicians who come from a wide variety of public and private health sector organizations. 39 graduates will be conferred with an MSc in Healthcare Management while 18 will be conferred with an MSc in Quality & Safety in Healthcare Management. 50 % of the graduates are Emirati nationals, with the remaining percentage being from the GCC & Asian countries.
Professor Frank Keane, President of RCSI said 'Over the past four decades, RCSI has been supporting healthcare systems worldwide through innovative education, training programmes and healthcare management services. The College's Institute of Leadership and Healthcare Management provides innovative education, training and healthcare management services in Ireland and internationally. We aim to continue this tradition in Dubai, by providing programmes that meet the emerging healthcare needs of the region.'
Professor Ciaran O Boyle, Head of the RCSI Institute of Leadership and Healthcare Management, said:
'We were very pleased to receive accreditation from the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research earlier this year. The Ministry's commitment to the high standards in education encourages us to continue develop and innovate our programmes. This month we are launching our Professional Electronic Portfolio which will facilitate students and alumni to track their own professional development and benchmark it against the competencies for their profession.'
The official opening of the RCSI Dubai campus will be officiated by An Tánaiste (Deputy Prime Minister) and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Mary Coughlan T.D. Tánaiste Mary Coughlan said 'RCSI has long been a leader among Irish third-level Institutions in terms of exporting knowledge. The provision of international education and training plays an important role in fostering links between Ireland and other countries. Furthermore, the type of education provided by the College enables students to develop a global understanding of the challenges facing modern healthcare and encourages a collaborative approach to strategy development and problem solving.'
Established in 2005, RCSI Dubai provides postgraduate education and training through the RCSI Institute of Leadership and Healthcare Management (ILHM). Currently RCSI Dubai has 130 students enrolled on its two master's programmes and since 2005, 86 students have graduated. Over the next few years, RCSI Dubai will expand its remit to include clinical education and training. Its programmes are accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research as well as the National University of Ireland.
