The three-day conference is being conducted by the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies & Research (ECSSR).

Prominent speakers at the conference included Dr. Anwar Gargash, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, David Miliband, British Secretary of State for Commonwealth Affairs, Dr. Hans Blix, Chairman, Weapons of Mass Destruction Commission and H. E Ambassador Hamad Al Ka'abi, UAE's Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)

"We are pleased to support the ECSSR and renew our association with this prominent UAE institution via our sponsorship of this conference."

said Mohammad Ali SVP & Head Of CCD at UNB, noting that for UNB this is the third year in a row to sponsor ECSSR's annual energy conferences.

Experts have called for the GCC to consider the development of peaceful nuclear energy to combat the growing energy needs of the fast-expanding economies of the Gulf.

The ECSSR conference aims to identify the role of nuclear energy in the context of energy security, climate change and the risks of nuclear proliferation.

The conference also studies the economic feasibility of nuclear energy and its political and social implications, drawing on international examples of civilian nuclear energy programmes from all over the world.
