The UAEGDA also facilitates communication and publication of scientific knowledge, to promote education and research in genetics, and encourages interaction between workers in genetics and those in related sciences. Several other projects are in the pipe-line and will be launched in stages.
"All of our outreach programs are aimed at the entire population, both Emiratis and Expatriates. We thank the government and corporate groups in supporting and increasing awareness among people. We are grateful for their unrelenting support, both financially and otherwise. This support will allow us to continue our work long into the future" concluded Dr Matar.
Mr. Mohamed Johmani, Managing Director of O2 Public Relations, said:
"The cooperation agreement signed with the UAE Genetic Disease Association is a source of great pride for everyone working in O2. The UAEGDA has made such a vital difference in the lives of so many people and we at O2 are delighted to play a small part in helping the UAEGDA achieve their important goals. Our work for the UAEGDA also embraces O2's corporate social responsibility program, and I'm sure this partnership will be an outstanding success for both parties. O2 Public Relations is one of the leading companies in its field; it has received several awards for its marketing and information campaigns designed for various projects."
He also pointed out that, as part of our CSR offering, our goal is to provide the UAEGDA with all our marketing communications experience, free of charge.
O2 Public Relations will provide the UAEGDA with public relations and marketing communications services including media and marketing campaigns, print ads, and will develop a web site in both Arabic and English so that it is accessible and beneficial to all.
Genetic disorders continue to pose a significant problem in the UAE, challenging the medical, social and financial resources of the nation. Thalassemia is the most common hereditary blood disorder characterized by defective production of hemoglobin, leading to low production and over-destruction of red blood cells. The clinical severity of Thalassemia varies greatly depending on the exact nature of the genes that a person inherits. The severe type of Thalassemia is terrible and debilitating disorder to live with.
