Envestors LLP, based in the UK, is a member of the British Business Angels Association and has won numerous industry awards for the deals that it has been involved with. It has now formed a franchise which will cover the Middle East, North Africa footprint.

The Envestors MENA network has been established in the Middle East in recognition of the growing market environment and the need for developing businesses to have access to expansion capital to take full advantage of local opportunities. For companies setting up or in early stage expansion it provides an informal introduction to private investors who will potentially consider investing venture capital.

The founders of this initiative in the Middle East are Edward Roderick who was formerly CEO of a FTSE 250 company in the UK and David Moleshead who was a senior investment banker in the region. Together, they have a combined business experience of over 70 years with major international businesses.

Commenting on the establishment of Envestors MENA, Edward Roderick, Co- Chairman, said:
"The Middle East has demonstrated tremendous growth over the past few years and many entrepreneurs have commenced businesses from modest beginnings. Through enterprising management they have quickly created businesses of some considerable substance. As the global markets continue to be volatile and somewhat remote to the influence of smaller investors we believe that the introduction of Angel Investing is appropriate for the region at this stage of its development."

Envestors operates as a network of private individuals looking to invest between $40,000 and $4m in early stage, high growth companies in the UK and the region. As returns on conventional investments have declined the popularity of Angel Investing as an alternative asset class has grown significantly.Envestors MENA has already recruited Angel Investors and is speaking to a number of local companies seeking to raise expansion capital.

Notes:
What is a Business Angel Investment?
Business Angel Investment should be treated as a serious asset class. Many High Net Worth individuals ( HNWI) allocate their wealth between equity investments and property. Business Angels who are looking for real capital growth typically allocate 5-10% of their assets into unquoted, early stage ventures which have the potential for spectacular gains.

In investing in this sector many Angel Investors look to diversify their risk and take a portfolio approach to their investments. Some will fail, some will grow a little, but hopefully one or two will show a spectacular return and make the effort highly beneficial.

The other interesting aspect of Angel Investment is that sometimes the investors have particular experience to bring to a business and will also be asked to undertake a non-executive role.

How will it work?
Through membership of thr Envestors network, the Angel Investors will receive a regular flow of quality deals which will be presented in a variety of communication formats after suitable vetting and due diligence.

As a first step of establishing in the Middle East, subscribed investors who join Envestors will be mainly shown UK opportunities but it is anticipated that local deals will quickly become available to assess on a similar basis.

Unlike some Angel networks, there will be no requirement for investors to make any annual commitment to invest - subscribed investors will be free to make their own individual assessments from the information provided and any subsequent investment will be made directly to the entities seeking to raise finance.

It is usual that formal legal agreements will be necessary between the company and investors and thus it is expected that external legal consultants will be fully engaged in the investment process.

Who will manage Envestors MENA?
Edward Roderick and David Moleshead are co-founders and Co-Chairman of this initiative which will act as a marketing company to offer a formal process to early stage companies seeking expansion capital and present opportunities to private individuals invited to join a network to consider investment.

Envestors MENA or any affiliate will not handle any investment funds - they will be invested directly in companies by private individuals via their own legal arrangements.

Edward Roderick was group CEO with a FTSE 250 company for several years and held senior level board appointments with listed companies in the UK. Most recently he was a senior vice president with Agility. Edward has been both an investor in and a fund raiser from Angel networks for a variety of businesses.

David Moleshead was an investment banker for over 40 years and latterly was managing director of HSBC Bank Middle East. He was involved in leading a number of major transactions across the region with government entities and major corporate. He is currently non executive vice chairman of ACUMA Wealth Management.
