An ongoing initiative, the series of workshops is aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of the press in political communications. More workshops will be held in the coming months.

The first workshop was attended by a number of media representatives who showed considerable interest in the event and in the investment in training by the MFNCA. The workshop also highlighted the partnership between the ministry and media personnel from local and regional media outlets that play a crucial role in enhancing political awareness among nationals and expatriates in the UAE.

"We appreciate the strong response from the media representatives to the first workshop. They showed keen interest in furthering their skills in covering political events and in better equipping themselves to strengthen the political participatory culture in UAE society," said H.E. Dr. Anwar Gargash, the Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs.

"The achievements of the Federal National Council in a short span have further enriched political practices in the UAE and led to its progress. The media's commitment to covering the FNC discussions and sessions with the highest standards of professionalism and objectivity has helped us achieve our goals," he added.

H.E. Tariq Lootah, Director General of the MSFNCA said:
"The first workshop contributed to establishing a strategic relationship with the media by sharing with them our ideas and procedures to further strengthen political coverage - and establish a political culture in the UAE. The participants expressed strong interest in the workshop indicating the media's strategic role as partner in enhancing the level of political development in the UAE."

The workshop focused on political issues and research methodologies and various tools to obtain sound understanding of the political process. It also highlighted best-practices from media coverage around the world. Training sessions included tackling the means of media communications and the use of technology and how to hone internet skills.

The second workshop will be held on December 15 and 16, 2008, in the Sharjah University premises under the theme: "Interactivity of Journalists with political Events." It aims at introducing special techniques in dealing with political events with real case-studies presented from around the region.
