The award ceremony was the culmination of the AVEX event schedule and took place in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. The prestigious AVEX award ceremony took place among the splendour of one of the largest air show and aviation exhibitions in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) that was inaugurated by the Egyptian President.

The awards are designed to recognise the safe, secure and sustainable development of the aviation industry; reward those companies that have attained the highest standards of quality; and highlight the importance of, and the opportunities offered by, the continuous growth of aviation in the Middle East.

Adel Ali, Board Member and Chief Executive Officer of Air Arabia, said:
"We are delighted to be named 'Best Regional Airline,' in what has been a tremendous year for Air Arabia. This award is a reflection of our continued commitment, not only to competitively priced air travel, but also to overall quality of service and our contribution to the regional development of the aviation industry."

"We are especially proud of our staff, both in Sharjah and across the wider region, who embrace a visionary approach to air travel and always strive to set new benchmarks for the region's airline industry," he added.

This accolade, acknowledging Air Arabia's contributions to the regional airline industry, follows a string of other award decorations for the carrier in 2008.

Last month, the carrier won the World Travel Award for Best Low-Cost Carrier in MENA. The prestigious ceremony, hailed as the Oscars of the travel industry, was one of several fruitful venues for the LCC. In September 2008, Air Arabia was named Best Low-Cost Airline in the Middle East and Africa at the prestigious Budgie Awards, part of the World Low-Cost Airlines Congress, held in London, UK. In May 2008, Air Arabia received the gold award in the best airline category at the MENA Travel Awards 2008.
