Royal Health Awareness Society holds award ceremony for GMCP participants in Jabal Al Nasser

The Global Micro-Clinic Project (GMCP), a project implemented by the Royal Health Awareness Society (RHAS) held an award ceremony for GMCP diabetic and pre-diabetic participants who managed to control their blood sugar levels successfully, at the Queen Rania Park in Al- Quesmeh.

The Micro-Clinic Project focuses on diabetics, by creating special micro clinics through the formation of groups containing three to eight patients. Each group is called a micro clinic, the main purpose of the project is to encourage patients to support each other and to offer them specialized health care supervision.

Dr. Miaser Zendah, Head of the Prevention from Cardiovascular Diseases - Specialist in Community Medicine, gave a welcome speech and stated:
"This initiative is part of the national efforts that aim to protect people from all diseases. Our collaboration with the Royal Health Awareness Society comes in line with our belief in the importance in contributing with all societies to help in increasing the level of awareness and reach a healthy society."


On the other hand, Project Officer of the Global Micro-Clinic Project, Dr. Yara Ali Musleh added: "The role of the Royal Health Awareness Society (RHAS) in spreading the awareness regarding the importance of preventing diabetes and decreasing the complications. Furthermore, we recognize that civil society involvement is the basic foundation of healthy societies."

According to the World Health Organization the diabetes epidemic in 2005 has contributed to global mortality rates with highest per capita death toll in the Middle East. In Jordan, diabetes prevalence is in increase. The national survey on risk factor prevalence for chronic diseases found 13% of the population diabetics in 2005 and 16% in 2007.

The Global Micro-Clinic Project is a joint effort between the Royal health Awareness Society (RHAS) and the Ministry of Health (MoH); which aims to empower people to prevent and manage diabetes in Jordan, and aims to establish 300 Micro Clinics that will include more than 900 participants in both Ain Al- Basha and Jabal Al-Naser areas.
