The celebration is being organised in accordance with the directives to the University of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah, and in keeping with the University's role in supporting educational institutions in the UAE.
Speaking of the event, Prof. Ashraf Al Najjar, Dean of the University of Sharjah's Community College, said:
"All of us at the University of Sharjah are deeply committed to upholding and preserving those aspects that make Emirati culture unique, and celebrating the greatness of the UAE. This celebration is being held in honour of the country's 37 years of existence, and we are proud to be able to host such an event to honour the remarkable country in which we live, and that has given us all so much. It is therefore with much gratitude and appreciation that we welcome the support of Emirates Investments Group and its Chairman, His Highness Sheikh Tariq Bin Faisal Al Qassimi, at our event this year."
The programme for the Community College's National Day event includes a display by a military marching band, a poetry recital, screening of films on UAE history, traditional dances, horse riding, and a falcon show, and the venue will offer traditional shops selling souvenirs, a henna corner and traditional coffee. Attendees will include representative from the Sharjah Police Sciences Academy, the Sharjah municipality, and the Department of Culture and Information, as well as other VIPs.
Commenting on EIG's decision to sponsor the event, a company spokesperson said, "National identity is important, particularly these days, when the world has become a 'global village'. At EIG we recognize the importance of honouring the formation of our beloved country and of keeping alive the unique history, culture, and spirit of the UAE. Events such as this one provide us all with an opportunity to come together and celebrate the formation and history of one of the most remarkable countries in the world."
Demonstrating the company's commitment to the UAE's national identity, EIG also recently announced its Platinum Sponsorship of MOSAIC 2009, an annual event held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and organised by the Sharjah Higher Colleges of Technology (SHCT). The theme for this year's MOSAIC is national identity.
