Dr Gargash, said:
"We have made commendable achievements in the field of human rights under the directions of our leadership that places great emphasis on protecting human values and maintaining the UAE's positive image on the global level. We will highlight the UAE's efforts in upholding human rights during the discussion session at the Human Rights Council. The UAE is currently undertaking serious action to resolve any gaps that exist with respect to human rights in our country - and although it is a work in progress, we will get there."
"The Periodic Report evaluates the human rights policies and practices in the UAE, and provides us with international best practices and different models in implementing human rights protection. The report is a truly historical documentation of the UAE's achievements in human rights," he added.
Dr Saeed Al Ghufli, the Executive Director at (MSFNCA) said that the head of the UAE delegation will address the Council for one hour followed by two hours discussion and questions at the Human Rights Council. He said that the session will promote interactive dialogue between the UAE delegation and the Council.
Dr Al Ghufli outlined that a Troika of countries will put forth its recommendations in cooperation with the General Secretary of the Human Rights Council, and will share it with the UAE Delegation to reach to a final draft. On December 9, the UAE will put forth its opinion about these recommendations.
The report's methodology takes into account the uniqueness of UAE society and culture, its federal structure and constitutional institutions. It outlines the rights protected by the constitution, UAE laws, international agreements and protocols.
With the Periodic Report, the UAE highlights its contribution to international efforts in promoting and enhancing human rights across the globe. In this process, the achievements of various countries are assessed and the challenges identified. The report also strengthens networking and best practices in the field of human rights among nations and with the Human Rights Council.
The report monitors the application of human rights principles across several areas such as education, health and housing. It also discusses the social and developmental support offered by NGOs and civil society organizations which cover issues such as women's empowerment, combating human trafficking, children's rights and others.
