Working from a strategic agreement with Saudi Telecom Company (STC), Qtel has implemented the new lower roaming rates in time for Eid al-Adha and the Hajj. The new roaming rates will take effect from 1 December and will continue through December.
Adel Al Mutawa, Executive Director of Group Communications, Qtel, said:
"A major part of our commitment to the community is providing value-for-money services when people need them the most. In particular, knowing the importance of the Hajj for so many people in Qatar, we have worked hard to ensure that this new reduction in roaming costs has been made available in time for December."
The plan represents tremendous savings to Qtel postpaid customers travelling inside the Kingdom.
To take advantage of the discounted pricing, all Qtel customers need to do is ensure that they are roaming on the STC mobile network while visiting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
A high number of Qatari nationals are set to travel to Mecca to take part in the Hajj, which is the largest annual pilgrimage in the world. In addition to offering reduced calling rates, Qtel is also providing support for a number of local charities that will sponsor pilgrims to Mecca.
Qtel is in the process of harmonizing roaming rates for both postpaid and prepaid customers, to ensure transparency for billing and to enable customers to better manage their communication costs when travelling.
