In his presentation at the workshop 'Positioning Building Products for the Green Market', Sougata Nandi, Director Sustainable Development at Enpark, highlighted the benefits of green buildings and ways to comply with green standards. During the workshop on 'LEED Standards for Neighbourhood Development', Nandi outlined Enpark's role in raising awareness about sustainability concepts in the GCC region.
Ali Bin Towaih, Executive Director, Enpark, said:
'We are proud to be associated with a global event that offered us a vital platform to share our green projects with global businesses. The event also provided us an opportunity to learn about similar initiatives being implemented by our industry peers worldwide. Enpark has played a major role in spreading awareness on promoting sustainable concepts in the region. We seek to engage our stakeholders in this mission through actively pioneering more efficient uses of key resources such as energy, water, raw materials and land, as well as sustainable technology and design, according to the LEED Certified Green Buildings Integrated Standards.'
Industry estimates by McGraw Hill Construction's Green Outlook 2009, released prior to the event, indicated a five-fold increase in the value of green building market in the US that has jumped from $10bn to $49bn between 2005 and 2008. This is expected to triple by 2013 to touch $140bn, according to the report.
The Greenbuild International Forum that ran concurrently focused on 'Building Tomorrow: New Communities and Cities', profiling projects from China, the UAE, Brazil, and Canada.
The Greenbuild International Conference & Expo has experienced tremendous growth since its inception in 2002.
As a master developer, Enpark is working aggressively to provide an infrastructure that will assist the sustainability ambitions of each facility in the free zone. Aiming to incorporate adequate recycling centres, waste water treatment plant and network that will provide treated water for landscaping purposes and water closets, the infrastructure will also include an extensive district cooling network and other green features. The project aims to utilize solar photo-voltaic powered streetlights and other applications of clean technology.
