"We feel that now the time has come to enter the netbook market segment which according to analysts is expected to grow strongly within the next 3 or 4 years,"

says Santosh Varghese, Regional General Manager for Toshiba's Computer Systems Division.

"We place great importance on offering the consumer the perfect mix of affordability, innovation and quality. We always endeavor to create devices that meet the same core values which all our products share."

Toshiba NB100 doesn't compromise on design and offers the choice of personalisation. It comes with a glossy design and customers can choose between three different colours: cosmic black, bright silver and champagne gold. Furthermore, consumers can individualise their laptops according to their personal tastes using a variety of removable skins that will be available for the Toshiba NB 100.

The Toshiba NB100 delivers optimal user experience for segmented target groups. It can be used as a primary device by those who do not require the processing power or range of functions of a full size laptop. The NB100 can also be used as a primary PC in a mobile business environment, for example, the salespeople and field service engineers. Its Linux version offers a very small platform that can be integrated very well into corporate databases, significantly reducing the cost of ownership over a regular PC. The NB100 can also be utilized as secondary device for experienced users who occasionally require a lightweight device for mobile working. It works ideally for users who may not wish to take their primary PC with them everywhere they go.

The NB100 comes with an 8.9'' WSVGA 1024 x 600 LCD panel with an LED backlight. It is powered by the latest Intel Atom CPU and comes in two variants, one with Ubuntu Netbook Remix 1.0 and the other with Windows XP Home. The advanced multimedia and communication capabilities prove that a down-sized netbook can be ready for business or multimedia applications.

It offers entry-level 3D graphics with an internal graphics controller, stereo speakers and full video-playback capability. Thus, it is an ideal travel companion helping to pass the time watching videos in the train or plane. Thanks to Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR , Wifi (802.11 b/g), and 10/100 Ethernet interfaces the NB100 easily connects with peripherals or Internet access points. Three USB ports with Sleep-and-Charge function complete the rich communications functionality of Toshiba's new netbook. The NB100 is priced at US$ 575.
