Omantel consortium qualifies for 2nd stage of third mobile operator license in Iran
- Oman: Monday, December 01 - 2008 at 12:01
- PRESS RELEASE
Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel) announced that it has been qualified for the second stage of obtaining the 3rd nation-wide Mobile Network Operator license in the Islamic Republic of Iran as part of a consortium comprising local and international partners.
The fact that Omantel has been qualified for the second stage confirms the great role played by the company among international telecom companies, the press release said.
A statement by the company indicated that Iran constitute one of the biggest regional telecom markets, with a population of 73 million, and mobile communications penetration less than 60% (the number of subscribers to the population).
Furthermore, the number of under-25 years of age persons accounts for 50% of the total population. This shows that there are huge opportunities for growth in this sector in the future.
Omantel noted that the third operator would enjoy exclusive rights to offer full range of third and second generations mobile communications services.
