Mobile telecoms in Oman will change soon says Friendi mobile

During the conference, the soon to be launched telecom company spoke of its aim to become the leading mobile provider in the SAMEA region, through its knowledge, expertise and state of the art technology.

As a provider that uses some of the existing network operator's infrastructure rather than fully building its own expensive infrastructure, the reseller mode has already proven a successful business model in other parts of the world (outside Oman a term MVNO is often used instead of the term reseller). Resellers bring best of the both worlds: Lower costs combined with higher quality.

Mohamed Yousuf Al Alawi, Chairman of FRiENDi mobile said:

'Since FRiENDi mobile does not build or install certain network elements such as radio link towers, FRiENDi mobile has significantly lower setup costs than normally associated with a mobile operator. We can utilise some basic network elements that already exist in Oman, yet FRiENDi mobile remains in control over the quality our customers get. FRiENDi mobile brings to Oman the absolute state of the art technology which provides the highest possible quality for the customers.'

The technology that FRiENDi mobile has set up in Oman is currently being used by more than 140 million mobile phone users around the world. This guarantees there are going to be no negative surprises. FRiENDi mobile maintains full control of its technology systems from its headquarters in Oman and the UAE.

FRiENDi mobile has been preparing its launch in Oman for more than two years, and in January of this year, as the first mobile reseller, FRiENDi mobile received the preliminary approval for a license from the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority. The final license was granted in June, and recently FRiENDi mobile signed an agreement with Oman Mobile for using parts of Oman Mobile's network infrastructure for FRiENDi mobile's operations.

Details of FRiENDi mobile's operations in Oman were also discussed at the meeting, as was FRiENDi's technology and call centre operations, and full commitment to serve the customers in the best possible way.

FRiENDi mobile was keen to point out that important announcements about services, products and prices can be expected in the near future. 'We are in the final stages of preparing our business before going live, and all our efforts are now focused on ensuring that when we launch, our customers will benefit from a fully functional, customer led service with smooth and seamless countrywide coverage right from the first day,' concludes Arponen.
